Eligibility Am I eligible for the Destination Employment program?

If you are not yet an official Canadian Citizen but you have your Permanent Residence card or Confirmation Letter, or you are a Protected Person and/or Convention Refugee with a positive outcome from your Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) hearing (and possess a valid work permit), you are likely eligible. Please consult with your regional delivery partner to see if you are eligible for this program. If you are not eligible, we may be able to direct you to alternative programs.

Process Am I guaranteed a job?

The program is designed to match all successful participants with good and well-paid jobs. The program will continue to ensure that it partners with as many employers as possible to achieve this goal. However, we cannot guarantee that all participants will find employment.

Industry Are there actually well-paid jobs in the accommodations industry?

There are thousands of well-paid opportunities in the tourism sector and they cover a broad range of occupations across five industries (accommodations, food & beverage services, transportation, recreation & entertainment, and travel services). Specifically focusing on accommodations, there are facilities maintenance positions (HVAC/engineering), kitchen positions from prep cook to executive chef, as well as numerous opportunities from housekeeping and front desk to event management and general manager roles. Within a given property, staff can access cross-training and become familiar with all operational positions as preparation for a supervisory or management position.

Process How long will it take to get hired?

Multiple factors will determine the time it takes for an individual newcomer to be employed through Destination Employment. Each newcomer will have a unique mix of skills, language proficiency, and work experience (in Canada or in another country). This is a pilot project; current expectations range from 6 to 17 weeks before being employed.

Eligibility I am already employed; can I apply?

Yes, if you can meet the training schedule requirements.

Eligibility I am not looking for full-time employment; can I apply?

Yes. The goal of this pilot program is to match the needs of job seekers and employers in the sector.

Eligibility I am participating in another program; can I participate in this one as well?

As per the funding agreement between Tourism HR Canada and the Government of Canada, there are no restrictions on the number of programs a participant can access when participating in the Destination Employment program. However, be sure to check with the other programs, as they might have restrictions.

Process I’m new to Canada. How do I sign up?

It’s simple. As a first step, please use the contact form to express your interest in Destination Employment. Please provide us with your contact information and indicate the area in which you reside. From there, one of our regional partners will contact you with information about Destination Employment in your region (if available).

Eligibility If I have been in Canada several years but am not yet a citizen, am I eligible?

There are currently no limits regarding the length of time residing in Canada, but check with your regional delivery partner as regional restrictions may apply.

Training Is the training available in languages other than English?

Yes, all training resources and tools are available in English and French. There are also some video resources available in Arabic and Tagalog to help participants who speak these languages.  Additional languages may be added based on demand.
